The Department Pharmacology Shri B.M Patil Medical College, Vijayapura was established in Oct. 1987. The Department of pharmacology is committed to achieve and strive for excellence in teaching, learning and research. The faculty members of the department are actively engaged in teaching II MBBS, and Allied Health Sciences (BPT, CCT, B.Se Nursing etc) students. Apart from didactic lectures, teaching involves small group’s discussion, seminars, self- directed learning and role play.

Department of Pharmacology

Students are trained in experimental pharmacology by computer assisted Learning (CAL) with the help of simulator software. Students are provided hands on training on Mannequins. The post graduate teaching for MD includes weekly subject seminars, journals clubs, interdepartmental seminars, attendance of guest lecturer’s experimental pharmacology exercise and participation in annual pharmacology conference. MD students also participate in clinical trials (National & International) The experimental and Research laboratories are equipped with state of art Instruments providing opportunities for student and faculty for research. The department has dedicated, committed and dynamic faculty members which are actively involved in several activities apart for from teaching.

Department has conducted “Good Clinical Practice” for Ethical committee members and potential principal Investigators for Clinical Trials”.

Pharmacovigilance Unit is set up in the Hospital which regularly monitors and report adverse drug events.

Department celebrates “Pharmacovigilance week” every year from 17th September to 23rd September with vibrant activities.

Departmental staff members are involved in day to day hospital activities like Prescription Auditing & Antibiotic Stewardship.

HOD Pharmacology is member secretary of Institution Ethics committee (IEC) and is involved in various IEC related activities.
