Overview

The department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology was established in 1987 at Municipal Hospital under Dr.Mrs. M.L. Sholapurkar, Prof, & Head, and senior Gynaecologist Dr. Miss S.N. Desai and Dr. Mrs. R.A.Umarji. The department was shifted to the present premises in 1988 The undergraduate course started in 1986, and the department was recognized for Postgraduate studies in 1996. The department of OBG is a premier center of academic and medical center for the entire district. It is tertiary care center for all the obstetric emergencies catering the entire Bijapur district and the nearby district of Karnataka and Maharashtra.

Presently the department is headed by the able and dynamic leadership of Dr S R Bidri subordinated by highly dedicated faculty. We have a total faculty (6 Professors, 3 Associate professors, Assistant professors, and senior residents). The department has an intake of 15 postgraduates every year. The department has fellowship program in Urogynecology and High-risk pregnancy 2 seats per fellowship program. The department has PhD program, presently two of the faculties perusing it. We have been conducting various value-added courses for interns, resident doctors, and paramedical staff. Along with the medical education, and clinical work the department is involved in the field of clinical research. We are part of various international research work funded by WHO, Global network, Bill, and Melinda gates foundation and John Hopkins hospital. The research has brought a global impact in the field of maternal and child health and female genital tract cancers. The department is proud to have hosted state level conference in obstetrics and Gynaecology - KSOGA, twice (2016 & 2023)
